Movement & Body Awareness
Advanced class using physical challenges & movement for graduates of Intermediate Skills.
Use props, patterns, environmental challenges and body awareness to provide structure, focus and clarity. Dogs are exposed to a variety of exercise types including mobility, balance, confidence building, and strength training,
This class is designed to expose dogs to a variety of exercise types including cardio, flexibility, balance and strength training, as well as mental fitness and confidence building. Each class includes a warm-up, a strength, balance & core strength, flexibility & movement, confidence building, a cool down, and more. Exercises can be adapted for young dogs and for advanced dogs, with more and less challenging variants of each activity available.
Teaching any new skill to a dog will target their mental fitness and navigating new equipment will boost confidence and proprioception skills.
Part of the class is spent working on activities around other dogs, and part of the class is spent relaxing and watching the other dogs work. You'll come away with a better understanding of how to balance your dog's focus between you and the environment, how to direct your dog's movement, how to handle the leash in more complex situations, and how to understand and adjust approach/passing trajectories in the real world. The classroom environment offers you the opportunity to practice these skills around dogs and handlers working on the same activities. The small class size ensures plenty of individualized coaching.
This class is available only to graduates of Intermediate Skills for Rowdy & Reactive Dogs (unless special permission is granted). Additionally, dogs in this class should be generally physically fit. A dog who had trouble (for example) walking up and down stairs or taking a 30 minute walk may struggle in this class. If you have questions about your dog's physical preparedness for this class, please contact us before registering.
Movement & Body Awareness for Leash Reactive Dogs is a reward-based class. Treats, toys, play and praise are generously utilized. We ask that you bring your dog on the same safety equipment you used in the Rowdy & Reactive Program’s Group Class.
