Fit Dog
Saturday foundation level fitness class for friendly family and sport dogs.
Flexibility, balance, strength, movement, confidence building. Use props, targets, lures and shaping to teach and practice fitness related behaviors.
This class is designed to expose dogs to a variety of exercise types including cardio, flexibility, balance and strength training, as well as mental fitness and confidence building. Each class includes a warm-up, a strength, balance & core strength, flexibility & movement, confidence building, a cool down, and more.
Exercises can be adapted for young dogs and for advanced dogs, with more and less challenging variants of each activity available. Teaching any new skill to a dog will target their mental fitness and navigating new equipment will boost confidence and proprioception skills.
Fit Dog is for generally healthy family dogs and for active and aspiring sport dogs. Dogs should be ready and able to engage in moderate physical activity. Dogs should be able to work and enjoy rewards around other dogs.
-- Dogs younger than 18 months may take the class (but some activities may be modified).
-- Dogs with significant weight-related mobility challenges should complete a tailored weight management program under the guidance of their veterinarian before participating.
-- Dogs recovering from a recent injury or surgery should not take this class until receiving full activity clearance from their veterinarian.
If you have any questions about whether or not this class is appropriate for your dog, don't hesitate to reach out.
Fit Dog is a reward-based class. Treats, toys, play and praise are generously utilized. We recommend you bring your dog to class on a flat buckle collar or on a harness. Bring a six-foot leash, lots of tasty, tiny healthy treats and a tug toy (optional), management chew (optional), and settle mat (optional).
