Class meets once a week for 6 weeks, on the same day and at the same time each week. Each classroom session lasts for one hour. Choose a starting date/time for details and to register for that 6-week series. This class is available only to graduates of Intermediate Skills for Rowdy & Reactive Dogs (unless special permission is granted).
The cost of the 6 week series is $300. Class size is currently limited to 4 dogs.
We’ll practice movement and body awareness exercises and use props like cavalettis, balance discs, platforms and cones. Part of the class is spent working on activities around other dogs, and part of the class is spent relaxing and watching the other dogs work. You'll come away with a better understanding of how to balance your dog's focus between you and the environment, how to direct your dog's movement, how to handle the leash in more complex situations, and how to understand and adjust approach/passing trajectories in the real world. The classroom environment offers you the opportunity to practice these skills around dogs and handlers working on the same activities. The small class size ensures plenty of individualized coaching.
The instructor for this class is Sarah Keegans. Sarah will help adjust each exercise for your dog's current focus, motivation, and physical ability. She will help you practice consistent and clear communication so that you more effectively guide your dog in varied circumstances. Sarah carefully structures the challenges to build incrementally so that confidence is gained every step of the way.
New Challenges for Leash Reactive Dogs is a reward-based class. Treats, toys, play and praise are generously utilized. Sarah asks that you bring your dog on the same safety equipment you used in the Rowdy & Reactive Program’s Group Class.
New Challenges for Leash Reactive Dogs is for graduates of Intermediate Skills for Rowdy & Reactive Dogs. Additionally, dogs in this class should be generally physically fit. A dog who had trouble (for example) walking up and down stairs or taking a 30 minute walk may struggle in this class. If you have questions about your dog's physical preparedness for this class, please contact us before registering.
