Curriculum

Rewards can be food, toys, social, environmental and more. Learn how to understand (and even manipulate!) what your dog wants and what will *work* to build better and more reliable behaviors. Smart selection of reward can depend on the individual dog, the behavior being reinforced, the current learning phase, and the environment you are working in. Delivery style and position of reward can work for you or against you. Well-timed, thoughtfully chosen, and clearly communicated rewards are powerful and effective. We will practice using your carefully chosen high-value, well timed, thoughtfully delivered, and clearly communicated rewards to strengthen different types of behaviors. You and your dog can expect to have a great time in this class - after all, it's Just Rewards! The classroom environment offers you the opportunity to practice these skills around dogs and handlers working on the same activities. The small class size ensures plenty of individualized coaching.

Instructor

The instructor for this class is Sarah Keegans. Sarah enjoys training (with reward-based methods) for Mondioring competition and for daily life.

Tools & Methods

Just Rewards is a reward-based class. Treats, toys, play and praise are generously utilized. Sarah recommends that you bring your dog to class on a front-clip harness or a flat buckle collar or regular harness. Bring a six-foot leash and anything you think might help your dog settle during break times (settle mat, chew, etc.). Please bring a variety of tasty, healthy treats (kibble, meat, freeze-dried, canned, etc.) and a selection of toys (tugs, balls, etc.).

Who It's For

Just Rewards is for dogs of any age. It is appropriate for family dogs and puppies, and for sport dogs and performance prospects.

If your dog lunges and barks at other dogs or at people, please do not register for this class. Instead, check out our Rowdy & Reactive Program instead.
