Six-week class establishing a strong stay behavior and the tools to continue practice and development. Teach your dog the concept of duration.
Class meets once a week for 6 weeks, on the same day and at the same time each week. Each classroom session lasts for one hour. Choose a starting date/time for details and to register for that 6-week series.
The cost of the 6 week series is $200. Class size is currently limited to 4 dogs.
We’ll cover a range of holding-still behaviors from relaxed settling to alert waiting. We’ll develop different reward rituals, learn how to cope with distractions, build endurance and raise criteria.
The classroom environment offers you the opportunity to practice these skills around dogs and handlers working on the same activities. The small class size ensures plenty of individualized coaching. Portions of this class may be held outside, weather and activity permitting.
The instructor for this class is Sarah Keegans. Sarah believes that a proper understanding of stay lays the foundation for almost everything else that our dogs need to be able to live comfortably in our world – and will help you better observe, understand, and respond to your dog in a variety of situations. Sarah thinks training stay is fun and rewarding and she believes, after this class, that you will too!
Serious Stay: Intensive is a reward-based class. Treats, toys, play and praise are generously utilized.
Sarah recommends that you bring your dog to class on a front-clip harness or a flat buckle collar or regular harness. Bring a six-foot leash, lots of tasty, healthy treats and a tug toy (optional), settle mat &/or chew (optional).
Serious Stay: Intensive is for friendly family dogs of any age. As long as your dog is old enough to have received his first rabies vaccination, he may register for this class.
Our adult dog classes are intended for dogs who are able to be comfortable and focused around other dogs in a relatively small space. Although a little bit of barking at the beginning of class is acceptable, dogs who bark throughout class or at other dogs are not good candidates for this class, and should check out our Private Coaching Sessions instead.
